The Federal Government has introduced a cutting-edge foreign policy designed to maximize its global partnerships. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, revealed the “4D foreign policy” in a ceremony attended by the diplomatic community in Abuja on Monday.
Tuggar emphasized the innovative nature of the new foreign policy, which revolves around Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora. He stated, “Our foreign policy document introduces a dynamic concept aligned with the principles of Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora.”
Highlighting the significance of democracy, Tuggar stressed its role as the universally acknowledged form of governance, ensuring freedom, human rights, and the rule of law. He expressed Nigeria’s commitment to fortifying democracy in Africa and globally.
“While democracy faces challenges, it remains the best form of government. President’s commitment to strengthening democratic gains is resolute. We will champion democracy both in Africa and the world,” he asserted.
Turning to the second aspect, development, Tuggar underscored the necessity of removing obstacles hindering progress in Nigeria and Africa. He emphasized breaking the current cycle of dependency, stating it hampers socio-economic growth in Africa.
The Minister highlighted Nigeria’s plan to leverage the Africa Continental Free Trade Area, facilitating the exchange of goods and services to expedite trade and investment through economic cooperation.
Addressing the demographic advantage, Tuggar outlined the government’s strategy to harness the country’s youth population for development. He stated, “Our youth excel in fintech, music, arts, sports, and more. We aim to showcase their talents for national development through foreign policy and diplomatic engagement.”
Furthermore, Tuggar acknowledged the vital role of the Nigerian diaspora community in the country’s development. He pointed out that their remittances significantly contributed to Nigeria’s economic growth. “A well-structured diaspora community will continue to be a catalyst for Nigeria’s image and a source of direct investment,” he affirmed.
In unveiling this transformative foreign policy, Nigeria signals a commitment to progressive governance and international collaboration, aligning itself strategically for a future of growth and influence.
