The calendar for bye-elections and rerun elections required by vacancies in the National and State Houses of Assembly has been released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Following the resignation or passing of multiple members of the legislative bodies, the vacancies were announced.

Nine states in the federation are affected by the vacancies, which are spread among two senatorial districts, four federal constituencies, and three state constituencies.

In addition, the Commission plans to hold new elections in response to orders from several Election Petition Appeal Tribunals that will impact 35 constituencies.

Among these, three constituencies will have comprehensive re-run elections, while others will involve specific polling units.q

The elections are slated to occur simultaneously across all affected constituencies on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024.

To ensure transparency and facilitate the electoral process, the Commission has uploaded the detailed timetable, including crucial delimitation data such as registration areas, polling unit names, the number of registered voters, and PVCs collected, on its official website and social media platforms.

It said the information aims to guide political parties, candidates, and the general public.

National Commissioner & Chairman of the Information Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, in a statement, emphasized the significance of adhering to the outlined timelines for a smooth and efficient electoral process.

The commission also urged strict compliance from all parties and candidates involved in the elections.
