Plateau attacks

The Para-Mallam Peace Foundation (PMPF) has called for swift and decisive actions against the perpetrators of the Christmas Eve attacks in Plateau State, describing the incident as a genocide. Rev Dr. Gideon Para-Mallam, President/CEO of the foundation, expressed condolences to the people of Bokkos Local Government Area, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, and all Nigerians affected by the tragedy.

In a statement, Rev Dr. Para-Mallam emphasized that the events in Plateau State should not be misrepresented as mere clashes between farmers and herders. Instead, he characterized them as deliberate, targeted, intentional, and systematic attempts to eliminate entire populations, likening the situation to patterns observed in some Middle Belt communities.

He criticized the creation of false and misleading narratives around the killings, calling it a disservice to the Nigerian nation and humanity. Rev Dr. Para-Mallam urged decisive action to end such mass and unjustified killings, emphasizing that only the Federal Government has the constitutional right and authority to address the situation.

The foundation called for the arrest of the perpetrators and questioned the effectiveness of the steps taken so far, urging the Plateau State government and the Federal Government to take tangible actions to prevent future atrocities. Rev Dr. Para-Mallam raised concerns about the motives behind the attacks, suggesting genocidal intent, land grabbing, and occupation by conquest.

He questioned whether the Plateau State government should continue to express helplessness in the face of such violence and whether the Federal Government should limit itself to issuing condolence statements without yielding tangible results. The call for decisive action underscores the urgency of addressing security challenges and ensuring the safety of communities affected by violence.
