Delta Poly Shuts Down Over Hoodlums Attack On Hostels

An eyewitness who gave her name as Chisom Gladys, narrated how the hoodlums attacked the students.

Due to thugs’ constant attacks on students, Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi Uku, was forced to close.

Prof. Emmanuel Achuenu, the institution’s rector, made the announcement that the school will be closed during the weekend.

It is anticipated that students will return to classes on Monday, February 26.

Additionally, the school’s Students Union Government (SUG) released a statement directing all hostel residents to follow the management’s instructions in order to continue with their semi-semester holiday.

According to reports from Ogwashi-Uku, most of the dorms on and around campus have been abandoned due to concerns about thugs attacking.

“They robbed the first room in the block, carting away phones and other valuable properties and it was in the second room that they shot the boy residing there on the leg.

“According to what we heard coming from the room, the boy was shot twice, but the first bullet failed to penetrate his body, while he was able to extract the second bullet from his leg by himself before the police arrived and took him to the hospital hours later.

“The last room that was robbed was occupied by a boy who happened to be sleeping on his corridor because of the heat. Immediately he woke up and saw the robbers, he tried to run inside the house but he was caught and beaten thoroughly with cutlasses and other weapons.”

It was gathered that the state Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, has summoned the area commander and the divisional police officer in Ogwashi-Uku over the matter.
