Edo 2024: Ex-NBA President, Akpata, wins LP governorship primary

The immediate past national chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olumide Akpata, has clinched the ticket of Labour Party for the September governorship election in Edo State.

He emerged as the governorship candidate of the party after winning the primary election held in Benin City, the state capital, on Friday.

Akpata was declared the winner of the primary after scoring the highest number of votes.

According to the election chairman, Akpata garnered 316 votes to defeat his co-contestants in a landslide victory.

Akpata’s declaration as the winner of the primary was followed by jubilation among his supporters at the venue.

Recall that Akpata ditched the legal profession for politics after resigning as a senior partner and the Head of the Corporate and Commercial Practice Group at Templars law firm in Nigeria on 31 August 2023.
