The Federal Government has introduced a pioneering initiative known as Design Thinking, Coding, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence (DTCRA) in newly established smart schools across Nigeria.

Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), unveiled this initiative aimed at equipping learners with essential skills vital for driving Nigeria’s technological progress. Speaking at a workshop themed “Integrating Design Thinking, Coding, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence (DTCRA) into the Smart Schools Programme,” Bobboyi emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering innovation among students.

The integration of DTCRA programs into classrooms is poised to empower students with critical thinking abilities, foster creativity, and nurture problem-solving skills from a young age. Bobboyi reiterated UBEC’s vision to cultivate globally competitive learners through these initiatives.

Prof. Bashir Galadanci, the National Coordinator of the Digital Resource Centre (DRC), lauded the collaborative efforts of academia, the private sector, and the Commission in brainstorming strategies for seamless integration. The workshop convened seasoned experts to explore optimal methods for incorporating Design Thinking, Coding, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence (DTCRA) into the curriculum of smart schools.

The establishment of 37 smart schools nationwide marks a significant milestone in the education sector. These institutions represent a forward-looking approach to basic education, leveraging modern teaching methodologies and cutting-edge technologies to enhance learning outcomes.

As 14 of these schools commence operations across various regions, students are poised to benefit from innovative blended learning approaches and state-of-the-art educational tools. The smart education initiative underscores the government’s commitment to providing quality education and preparing future generations for the challenges of a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
