‘For Healthy Living’ — Gombe Introduces Mandatory Monthly Sanitation Exercise

The exercise would be held between 8.00 a.m. and 10.00 a.m.

The Gombe government has introduced a compulsory monthly sanitation in an effort to maintain a clean and sustainable environment for healthy living.

Inuwa Yahya, governor of Gombe, who gave the approval said the exercise would be every last Saturday of each month, starting from April.

The state government said there will be restriction of human and vehicular movement during the exercise.

In a memo on Tuesday, Mohammed Fawu, Gombe commissioner of water, environment and forest resources, urged residents to take advantage of the exercise to clean up their surroundings.

Fawu said the exercise will hold between the hours of 8 am to 10 am starting from April.

He added that only those on essential duties would be allowed to move around.

“In line with this administration’s resolve to ensure provision of sustainable and healthy environment for human habitation, Gov. Yahaya has approved the conduct of monthly general environmental sanitation exercise in the state,” he said.

“This is to be observed by the general public every last Saturday of the month. The exercise is to be conducted from 8.00 a.m. and 10.00 a.m.

“Based on the above, there will be restriction of movements during the period (except those on essential services).

“Also, all MDAs and the general public are hereby directed to comply strictly with the directive.”

Fawu added that officials from the ministry of water, environment and forest resources and Gombe state environmental sanitation and protection agency (GOSEPA) would monitor the exercise to ensure strict compliance with the directive.

Recall that the state government recently constructed modern waste collection points in various communities in the state metropolis and its suburbs to ensure efficient waste management.
