Katsina customs officer lynched for shooting passenger

Passengers of a truck reportedly killed a customs officer along the Katsina-Dankama road in Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State.

According to Daily Trust, the incident occurred Wednesday morning at Gamjin Makaho village. The truck, which was transporting passengers to Dankama town, was approached by customs officials. Despite their attempts to stop it, the driver did not comply.

Reportedly, an armed customs officer discharged his weapon, accidentally striking a passenger in the waist. The truck driver then halted, and the passengers exited the vehicle and confronted the customs officers, ultimately attacking the shooter.

According to reports, the passengers eventually killed the customs officer, whose name and rank could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.

The victim, identified as Bashir Na-Buzuwa, was said to have also died from the gunshot wound.

Late Na-Buzuwa, who was said to be about 27 years old and a native of Doro town in Bindawa LGA, was a resident of Zanguna in Katsina city.

When contacted, the Customs Public Relations Officer in Katsina State, SC Tahir Balarabe, said the Service would issue an official statement on the incident, adding that were trying to evacuate the remains of their colleague.
