JUST IN: Bayelsa Governor, Diri Swears In 14 Commissioners

... eight council chairmen were also sworn in on Monday

Douye Diri, governor of Bayelsa has sworn in 14 new commissioners and eight newly elected LGA chairmen and their vice chairmen in government house at Yenagoa, the state’s capital on Monday.

On April 12, Diri sent the names of 14 commissioner-nominees to the house of assembly for screening and confirmation.

In his remarks, the governor tasked the commissioners and recently elected chairmen with building on the achievements of his first term and launching legacy initiatives that would improve people’s lives and the state as a whole.

The new commissioners are Hon. Dr. Emelah Gentle, the Ministry of Education; ESV Moses Teibowei, the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure; Hon. (Mrs.) Koku Ebiuwou Obiyai, the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Productivity; and Biriyai Dambo, SAN, the Ministry of Justice/Attorney General of Bayelsa State.

The others are Brodrick Preye, the Ministry of Special Duties (East), George Flint, the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Engr. Komuko Akari Kharin, the Ministry of Power, Barr. Perepuighe Biewari, the Ministry of Lands and Survey, and Dr. Ebieri Jones, the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Investment.

Hon. Michael Magbisa, Ministry of Special Duties (West), Mrs. Elizabeth Bidei, Ministry of Women Affairs, Hon. Daniel Igali, Ministry of Sports Development, and Barr. Peter Afagha, Ministry of Mineral Resources, were also sworn in.

“I urge you to ensure efficient management of finances at their disposal for the betterment of all. For the Local Government Area chairmen, I want you to prioritize prompt payment of salaries. Let me also inform you that the era of loan-taking in the name of governance is over,” he said.
