Anambra police arrest suspected child trafficker linked to international gang

Kaduna State Police Command

Anambra State Police have arrested a suspect, believed to be part of a child trafficking ring operating between Nigeria and neighbouring countries, including Ghana and Benin.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement by police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga on Wednesday.

The operation followed concerns raised by the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, over a rise in reports of missing persons, particularly in areas like Okpoko and Onitsha.

“The suspect, whose name has been withheld, is involved in trafficking children aged 13 to 16 to neighbouring countries,” Ikenga stated. He also confirmed that a victim has been safely returned from Accra, Ghana, and has been debriefed.

The suspect is currently being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka, with efforts ongoing to rescue other victims and apprehend additional gang members.
