Dr Abdul-Jhalil Tafawa Balewa, a former presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called for patience with President Bola Tinubu, stating that he inherited a near-bankrupt nation but is making efforts to set things right.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, Tafawa Balewa acknowledged the difficulty of rescuing a nation in dire financial straits but said more needs to be done to address Nigeria’s challenges.
He urged the president to cut the cost of governance and streamline the number of ministries, arguing that reducing the 48 ministries would free up resources for development. He also advised Tinubu to bring in technocrats to help implement his development agenda.
On security, Tafawa Balewa stressed the need for stronger efforts to tackle kidnappings and insurgency, adding that improved security is essential to boosting food production.
As a Consultant Nuclear Chemist, he also highlighted the underutilisation of Nigeria’s gamma radiation facility, which could help with food preservation and distribution.
