The Borno State government has cautioned private school owners against arbitrarily increasing tuition fees without proper consultations.

Lawan Wakilbe, the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, issued the warning during an interactive session with private school proprietors on Friday in Maiduguri.

He highlighted the importance of adhering to the state’s 2023 Revised Guidelines for Private Schools and Colleges and the National Policy on Education and warned against any breaches of these regulations.

Wakilbe stated, “Arbitrary fee hikes are unacceptable. Schools must consult Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) before implementing any fee changes. Parents are key stakeholders, and their opinions must be considered in decisions affecting their children’s education.”

The commissioner also urged schools to stop admitting students without proper documentation and warned against registering external examination candidates without following due process.

He emphasized the state’s commitment to ensuring compliance with education standards and fostering a collaborative approach to decision-making in the sector.
