Nigeria Customs Intercepts N5.93bn Wildlife Products in 2024

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) intercepted 76 seizures of wildlife products worth N5.93bn in 2024, Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi announced on Monday at the International Customs Day 2025.

Themed ‘Customs Delivering on its Commitment to Efficiency, Security, and Prosperity’, the event highlighted the NCS’s achievements, including intensified efforts against narcotics trafficking. Adeniyi revealed that 105 seizures of illicit drugs and narcotics were made last year, addressing a shift towards pharmaceutical and synthetic drug abuse.

“Our enforcement actions against wildlife trafficking, illegal timber trade, and hazardous waste smuggling achieved significant success,” Adeniyi noted.

He emphasised that the NCS’s strategic approach balances trade facilitation with security, contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth. Additionally, the implementation of the Advanced Ruling System provided binding decisions on shipment classification and valuation, enhancing customs efficiency.
