Akwa Ibom Police Arrest 13-Year-Old for Brandishing Father’s Gun

Police in Akwa Ibom State have arrested a 13-year-old pupil, Samuel Sunday, for carrying his father’s gun to school and threatening to shoot his classmates at St Paul Primary School, Ikot Ibiok, in Eket Local Government Area.

Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, confirmed the arrest in Uyo on Wednesday, adding that the boy’s father was also taken into custody.

“The suspect confessed that he found the gun in a wardrobe in his father’s bedroom and had been keeping it since November 2024. A locally made pistol was recovered, and investigations are ongoing,” Azare said.

The police also arrested a suspect, Abasifreke Udo Thomas, for allegedly shooting a woman in December 2024. He was found in a hotel, and a locally made pistol was recovered.

Additionally, three young men were arrested for attempted murder, cultism, and possession of firearms. Recovered items included a pistol, live cartridges, machetes, suspected Indian hemp, and cash.

In another case, two suspects were arrested for allegedly stealing a child in Itu Local Government Area and selling the infant for ₦200,000. Police said the suspects used the money to buy household items, which have now been recovered.

Azare assured that all suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
