Pensioners of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) plan a nationwide protest over ongoing financial and medical challenges.
Under the Federal Parastatal and Private Sector Pensioners Association of Nigeria (FEEPPPA), the retirees met at Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) in Ikeja, Lagos. They expressed frustration over still receiving the old minimum wage of N33,000.
Addressing over 1,000 pensioners, the National Union of Pensioners (NUP) general secretary, FAAN branch, Comrade Emeka Njoku, revealed that all efforts to engage the new FAAN management had failed.
He further stated that medical benefits granted in past years are no longer available. Additionally, he reminded the management of a 2002 agreement stating that pension should increase whenever salaries are raised.
“Previous administrations always presented the proposed increase to us for review. But now, they ignore our letters and remain silent,” he said.
However, FAAN’s Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, assured that the authority would soon meet with the pensioners to address their concerns.
