The Anambra Physical Planning Board has begun demolishing illegal structures and shanties across the state, citing security and environmental concerns.

Managing Director Chike Maduekwe said enforcement followed the expiration of a three-month notice for developers to present building permits.

Demolished structures included shanties around public buildings in Nkisi and an ongoing construction on a canal in Onitsha.

Governor Charles Soludo has directed strict adherence to planning regulations, with Maduekwe warning that no offender—regardless of status—will be spared.

“We received reports of criminal activities linked to some of these structures,” he said. “Developers must obtain approval, or their buildings will be pulled down.”
