The Kebbi State Government has begun preparations to sponsor a mass wedding for 300 couples, scheduled for Feb. 27.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, announced this on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi. He stated that the event is being organized in collaboration with the Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS), a non-governmental organization.
Various committees have been set up to oversee essential marriage prerequisites, including pregnancy tests, genotype tests, and HIV/AIDS tests.
Argungu emphasized that the mass wedding fulfills a promise made by Governor Nasir Idris during the last event, pledging periodic support for less privileged individuals seeking marriage.
The state government will provide N180,000 as dowry for each bride across the 21 Local Government Areas, totaling N54 million for the 300 beneficiaries.
In addition to dowries, the government will also provide essential items such as room furniture and foodstuffs to help the couples start their married lives successfully.
