The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for allegedly failing to direct the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Olawale Edun, to identify and prosecute contractors who received over N167 billion from 31 ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) but did not execute any projects.
The lawsuit also names the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, as a respondent.
Filed last Friday at the Federal High Court in Lagos (Suit No. FHC/L/MISC/121/2025), SERAP is urging the court to compel President Tinubu to direct Mr. Fagbemi to prosecute companies and contractors that received N167 billion in public funds without delivering on any projects.
SERAP also requests that President Tinubu instruct Mr. Olawale Edun to release the names of the companies and contractors implicated, as documented in the 2021 Audited Report by the Auditor General of the Federation.
Additionally, the group is demanding details of the projects, including their locations, amounts received by each contractor, and the names of the companies’ shareholders.
SERAP argues that corruption involving these companies and contractors has hindered millions of Nigerians’ access to essential public goods and services. Holding those responsible accountable, the organization claims, would help combat waste, fraud, and mismanagement of public funds.
The group further asserts that these allegations violate the Nigerian Constitution (1999, as amended), national anti-corruption laws, and international anti-corruption commitments.
