The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has condemned the actions of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), insisting that he must be held accountable for the violence and bloodshed linked to his movement.
In a statement issued on Thursday, CNG’s National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, criticized Kanu’s recent conduct at the Federal High Court in Abuja, describing it as a threat to national stability.
“By insulting the prosecuting lawyer and demanding the judge recuse himself, Kanu has demonstrated a lack of respect for the judicial process and the professionalism expected in a court of law,” the group stated.
CNG accused Kanu of inciting violence through inflammatory remarks and reiterated its firm opposition to IPOB’s secessionist agenda.
The coalition recalled its Kaduna Declaration, in which it urged Igbo residents in the North to relocate to the South East to pursue their self-determination ambitions, citing concerns over IPOB’s rhetoric and actions.
CNG further alleged that Kanu’s broadcasts from exile incited attacks on security personnel, government institutions, and northern Nigerians residing in the South East.
It referenced IPOB’s designation as a terrorist organization in 2017, arguing that despite the proscription, Kanu continued to promote violent activities.
“We regret ever being political allies with the South East, as their leaders appear to prioritize their interests over national security. It is time for Nigerians to unite and reject divisive figures who place personal power above national stability,” the statement read in part.
