The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the restoration of electricity to several parts of the country following a power outage caused by a national grid disturbance on Wednesday.
TCN’s spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed the development in a statement, explaining that the outage occurred at 11:34 a.m. due to a tripping on the Omotosho-Ikeja West 330-kilovolt transmission line at the Omotosho end.
At the time of the incident, the Benin-Egbin 330kV line was also on a scheduled outage for mechanical line tracing, which further affected the system’s stability.
The power disruption led to blackouts in major cities, including Lagos, Abuja, and Osogbo, while other areas remained unaffected.
TCN assured Nigerians that efforts were immediately initiated to restore electricity, and the affected transmission line has now been fully restored.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) wishes to clarify that at 11:34 hours today, the Omotosho-Ikeja West 330kV transmission line tripped at the Omotosho end. At the time, the Benin-Egbin 330kV line was on a scheduled outage for mechanical line tracing,” the statement read.
In other news, The Federal Government aims to boost Nigeria’s electricity supply by adding 150 megawatts to the national grid by January 2025.
During a meeting at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu disclosed this.
Adelabu noted that the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to stabilize the fragile national grid.
