Son, 20, beats mother to death in Bauchi

One Safiyanu Dalhatu has allegedly murdered his mother, Salama Abdullahi, in Bauchi State, the police in the north-east State have said.

The suspect, 20, allegedly bludgeoned his 40-year-old mother to death with a pestle in the Abujan Kwata area of Bauchi metropolis last month.

He was said to have attacked his mother and committed the heinous crime after a heated confrontation ensued between them.

Dalhatu fractured both her hands and caused other severe injuries during the attack, a statement by the State Police Command spokesperson, Ahmed Wakili, disclosed.

According to the statement, members of the Peace and Security Committee reported the incident to the ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters on February 24, 2025, at around 3:00 pm.

Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Abdullahi Muazu, led a team of detectives to the scene and rushed the victim to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) for urgent medical attention.

However, despite efforts to save her, a medical professional confirmed her death.

The police have since arrested the suspect and ecovered the pestle used in the assault as evidence.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, has ordered a comprehensive investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

The CP reassured the public that the case would be handled diligently and in accordance with the law, adding that the suspect will face prosecution upon the completion of the investigation
