The senate has begun investigating Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s confrontation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio regarding the issue of seating arrangement in the chamber.
On February 20, Akpoti-Uduaghan had a tense exchange with the senate president due to the sudden alteration of her designated seat in the assembly.
Following the incident, she was subsequently directed to appear before the senate committee on ethics, privileges, and public petitions for further scrutiny.
On February 25, the senator representing Kogi central initiated a defamation lawsuit of N100 billion against the senate president over the dispute.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was not present when the committee, led by Neda Imaseun, a Labour Party (LP) senator, commenced proceedings at exactly 2pm.
A federal high court in Abuja had issued an order preventing the senate committee on ethics, privileges, and public petitions from continuing with the disciplinary process.
Yemi Adaramodu, who serves as the senate spokesperson, provided testimony against Akpoti-Uduaghan during the committee’s investigative session.
Titus Zam, the chairman of the rules and business committee in the senate, along with the sergeant-at-arms, also testified against Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The committee officially concluded its hearing at approximately 4pm after listening to the testimonies presented before them.
