- Bello accused of openly campaigning for opposition candidate, violating party constitution and drawing backlash from ward stakeholders.
- He was also urged to refrain from parading himself as a member or official of the party pending the conclusion of the process.
Officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gayam Electoral Ward, Lafia LGA, have suspended the party’s state chairman, Aliyu Bello, over alleged anti-party activities.
The suspension was announced by the ward chairman, Ibrahim Iliyasu, during a press conference held on Tuesday in Lafia.
Iliyasu, who read a suspension letter co-signed by himself and 13 other ward executives, said the move followed an inquiry into allegations from party members.
“We have credible evidence and reports that he has openly promoted and campaigned for a member of another political party contrary to Article 21 (1), (11), (VII) of the party’s constitution,” he said.
The ward chairman stated that Bello’s actions had embarrassed the party and weakened its standing among loyal members.
“We have decided to suspend you with immediate effect in line with the powers vested in us as ward executive under Article 21 (D), (I), (III) of the constitution of our party and having consulted widely with stakeholders within the ward,” Iliyasu added.
He said the suspension letter would be forwarded to the Lafia Local Government Area Executive, the State Executive Committee, and the National Working Committee for further action.
He warned Bello against presenting himself as a party official until the matter is concluded.
