Akpabio ousts Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as Senate committee chairman

Embattled Kogi Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has lost her position as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations.

This follows her removal from the position by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who announced Senator Aniekan Bassey as her replacement.

Akpabio announced the removal of Natasha from her role and her replacement during plenary on Thursday.

Consequently, Bassey replaces Akpoti-Uduaghan, whose leadership of the committee had been in limbo due to her suspension.

Recall that in February, Akpoti-Uduaghan was removed as chairperson of the Senate Committee on Local Content and reassigned to the Diaspora and NGOs Committee after a standoff with Akpabio.

Although no reason was given for her replacement, it is thought that the move may not be unconnected to her suspension.

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court last week ordered Natasha’s reinstatement, saying the six-month suspension imposed on her is excessive.

She also compelled her to tender an apology to the Senate for her conduct.

But the Senate maintains it has yet to receive a certified true copy of the court’s judgment.

Natasha, on her part, is yet to tender the apology
