The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has mourned the death of the former president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.
The party extended its condolences to Buhari’s family and all Nigerians over the passing of the former president.
In a statement signed by the national publicity secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC described Buhari as a “patriot and elder-statesman.”
Abdullahi stated that Buhari would be remembered for his “indelible imprints on Nigeria’s political history.”
“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) condoles with the family of former President Muhammadu Buhari and all Nigerians over the demise of the former president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR,” the statement reads.
“The party notes that President Buhari will be remembered for his indelible imprints on Nigeria’s political history as an elder-statesman and, above all, as a great patriot.”
“The ADC states that the former military ruler and president was a towering figure who typified humility, integrity and zero tolerance for corruption.”
The ADC spokesperson also prayed for strength for Buhari’s loved ones and for all Nigerians during this moment of grief.
WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported that the former president died in a clinic in London, United Kingdom, on Sunday.
The 82-year-old president had been sick for weeks and was receiving treatment at the London hospital.
Buhari was the first opposition candidate to defeat a sitting president in Nigeria’s history.
The family has not yet released funeral arrangements.
