PHOTOS: Atiku, Peter Obi, El-Rufai visit late Buhari’s Daura home, offer condolences

The former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday, visited Daura, Katsina State, to honour the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

He was accompanied by the former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai, and the former secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha.

Also present was the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, who paid condolence to the family.

The political figures gathered at the residence of the deceased to sympathise with the family and offer prayers.

Buhari, who ruled the country twice—first as a military leader between 1983 and 1985, and later as a democratic president from 2015 to 2023—died on Sunday in London.

His remains were flown back to Nigeria on Tuesday by Vice-President Kashim Shettima and the chief of staff to the president, Femi Gbajabiamila.

President Bola Tinubu received the body at the Katsina Airport, along with senior members of the federal cabinet.

He was buried the same day in Daura, with military honours observed during the funeral.

WITHIN NIGERIA reports that Buhari was laid to rest at a spot in his garden where he often sat while alive.

His body, wrapped in the national flag, was wheeled in by military officers, as ceremonial gunshots rang out.

The burial attracted a large crowd, with top dignitaries and residents trooping out to pay their final respects.
