A fatal road accident in Nigeria’s northeast state of Borno has left no fewer than nine people dead.
Seven other persons also sustained injuries in the auto crash that happened along the Maiduguri–Damaturu highway on Friday.
The road mishap involved a Toyota Hummer bus belonging to Borno Express and a commercial trailer, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, disclosed in a statement.
According to the statement by the Borno Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Usman Muhammad, the victims include five adult males, one adult female, two male children, and one female child.
“Eight passengers died on the spot, while one later died at the Specialists Hospital in Maiduguri, where the injured are currently receiving treatment,” Muhammad said.
He expressed condolences to the families of the victims and noted that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.
The sector commander also advised motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent similar tragedies
