After 20 years in coma, Saudi ‘sleeping Prince’ Al Waleed dies

Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal, a member of the Saudi royal family has passed away after being unconscious for two decades.

Waleed whose sobriquet was ‘Sleeping Prince,’ fell into a coma after suffering a brain haemorrhage following a car crash in 2005 while studying at a military college in the UK.

His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, announced his passing on Saturday, describing his death as Allah’s will.

“With hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son: Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away today,” the grieving father wrote on X.

A nephew of the billionaire businessman Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, Waleed became a quiet but enduring symbol of faith and resilience for many in the Arab world.

After he was confirmed dead on Saturday, plans for his funeral were scheduled to take place in Riyadh on Sunday
