The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, has claimed that Peter Obi is considering exiting the coalition.
Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, had joined other opposition figures earlier this month to launch the ADC-led coalition against the APC.
Barely two days after the coalition’s formation, Obi declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election while still retaining LP membership.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Kachikwu insisted Obi would not be allowed to contest on the ADC platform.
He alleged that the ADC coalition is being structured to advance former vice-president Atiku Abubakar’s political ambition ahead of the 2027 race.
He said opposition politicians, including Atiku, had hijacked the ADC to create a false sense of unity in the coalition.
Kachikwu said, “The whole ADC structure is being packaged for the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.”
“Since I started warning people about what is happening, we can see what is happening within the coalition.”
“Someone like Mr Peter Obi now understands that the whole coalition was packaged for Atiku Abubakar.”
“From our understanding, what we are seeing now is that he is looking in other directions, and other people who aspire to run now realise that the coalition was indeed no coalition.”
“It was just a vehicle for Atiku Abubakar’s ambition.”
Kachikwu stated that the ADC should not be converted into a personal project for any political elite.
He vowed to resist any attempt to use the party as a tool for what he described as class dominance in 2027.
He said the coming elections must reflect true democratic values, not elite exploitation.
He pledged to enlighten Nigerians about their political rights and resist manipulation by self-serving leaders.
