2027: ADC clears air on picking presidential candidate among Atiku, Obi, Amaechi

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has weighed in on the raging debate on who should get its presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 election.

Recall that former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, the immediate past minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, have expressed their interest in running on the platform of the party.

The presidential ambition of the trio, especially Obi and Abubakar, has caused division within the party with supporters of both politicians lobbing verbal grenades at each other over who should get the party tickets.

Speaking on the matter, Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC interim National Publicity Secretary, said it’s too early to decide who will become its 2027 presidential candidate.

Speaking in Abuja on Saturday, Abdullahi said the ADC has no preferred presidential candidate and it’s at the moment focused on building a strong political party.

He said: “We don’t have any favourite aspirants or candidates. We are not having any conversation at the moment.

“Nobody has ever had any conversation about who will be the party’s flag bearer.

“We believe that it is too early in the day. Our focus now is to build a political party that is strong enough to deliver on the mission that we have set for ourselves.”
