I wouldn’t have won without Idahosa — Okpebholo

The governor of Edo state, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has attributed his victory in the 2024 governorship election to his choice of running mate.

Speaking on Monday, Governor Okpebholo said that selecting Mr Dennis Idahosa as deputy governor was the best decision of his political campaign.

He made the remark while addressing defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party at Okada, headquarters of Ovia North-East Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Mr Friday Aghedo, the governor hailed their partnership as productive.

“We are working well together. I wouldn’t have won the election if I had chosen another person as deputy,” Okpebholo was quoted as saying.

He described Idahosa as his brother and insisted that their continued partnership would bring positive results for the people of Edo State.

“I won because I made the right choice in him,” the governor added during the meeting with the former PDP members.

Governor Okpebholo further said, “Why are we working for Edo people? We are working for Edo because we are confirmed sons of the soil.

“We are not foreigners. We were not borrowed from somewhere else.”

He used the occasion to prepare the people ahead of the August 16 by-election in Ovia Federal Constituency.

“I will be coming back here for a campaign to let our people know that the choice for Ovia Federal Constituency is the right choice for the people,” he said.
