- Sheriff said his claim of Obi’s imminent return to the PDP is hinged on solid and reliable information.
Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, former Borno State governor, has asserted that former Anambra governor, Peter Obi, will contest the 2027 presidential election under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Modu Sheriff made the assertion when he appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday.
Sheriff said his claim of Obi’s imminent return to the PDP is hinged on solid and reliable information. Obi was the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections.
He also said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition will cease to exist in three months.
“As far as this politics is concerned, ADC doesn’t exist. Give the party three months and it will die down.
“The information available to me is that at any moment from now Peter Obi will go back to PDP and run as a presidential candidate under PDP,” he said.
The former governor also insisted that, with the political structures available, the ruling party will retain victory in 2027.
Recall that Obi left PDP in 2022 after it became obvious that he wouldn’t clinch the party’s presidential ticket. He defected to the Labour Party and secured the party’s presidential ticket.
The former Anambra governor is currently part of the ADC coalition of opposition figures which aims to oust President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
The coalition had adopted the African Democratic Congress, ADC, as its platform to contest the next election.
However, the presidential ambitions of some coalition members, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, have triggered speculation that Obi may pull out.
ADC reacts to Obi’s purported impending return to PDP
The ADC has warned that Peter Obi will make a costly mistake if he returns to the PDP.
The ADC said Obi cannot “take the risk” of returning to the PDP because the All Progressives Congress (APC) has assumed control of the party.
Bolaji Abdullahi, the spokesman of the ADC, made this known on Monday while appearing on Arise TV’s Prime Time.
He also stated that Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, is totally with the ADC coalition.
