Northern senators commend Tinubu on security but demand stronger action

The Northern Senators Forum has commended President Bola Tinubu for his support of security agencies but insisted more must be done to tackle insecurity in the region.

The chairman of the forum, Abdulaziz Yar’adua, said this following the killing of at least 35 people in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Gunmen reportedly abducted several residents in the community and killed some victims despite collecting ransom.

Yar’adua described the killings as heinous, stressing that such attacks do not reflect the values of the northern region.

“We condemn this heinous act in the strongest possible terms and declare that it does not reflect the values, people, and aspirations of the north,” he said.

“Our region is known for its hospitality, peace, and tranquillity, and such acts of violence only serve to undermine our cherished values.”

He urged security agencies to strengthen collaboration with local vigilantes and improve intelligence gathering to prevent further attacks.

The senator expressed sympathy with the people of Zamfara and offered prayers for the families of those killed.

“We pray that Allah grants the departed souls eternal rest. May their families find solace in the face of this tragedy,” he said.

Yar’adua acknowledged Tinubu’s support to the security sector, citing funding and recruitments, but stressed the need for increased training and better tactical coordination.

“We hope that more training of personnel will be achieved to curb incidents of this kind,” he added.
