President Bola Tinubu has removed Nkiruka Madueke as the director general of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC).
The president has appointed Omotenioye Majekodunmi, a climate finance specialist, as the new head of the council.
This was disclosed on Wednesday in a statement by the presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mrs Omotenioye Majekodunmi as the new Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC),” Onanuga said.
The statement noted that the president appreciated Madueke’s role in laying the foundation of the council during her tenure.
It added that Majekodunmi brings over 17 years of experience from global and national institutions working on renewable energy, carbon markets, and climate governance.
Before her appointment, she served as the council’s financial adviser, where she helped in shaping Nigeria’s climate policies and international engagements.
Onanuga explained that the new appointment reinforces Tinubu’s commitment to addressing climate change as a national priority for economic growth, security, and social inclusion.
