I don’t identify with Nigeria anymore, I’ve not renewed my passport in decades – Kemi Badenoch

The leader of the United Kingdom Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, has said she no longer feels connected to Nigeria, disclosing that she has not renewed her Nigerian passport in over two decades.

Speaking on the Rosebud podcast on Friday, Badenoch said she no longer identify with Nigeria again as she never really felt she belonged to the country.

“I have not renewed my Nigerian passport, I think, not since the early 2000s,” Badenoch said.

“I’ve never quite felt that I belonged there.

“I don’t identify with it (Nigeria) anymore, most of my life has been in the UK and I’ve just never felt the need to.”

According to Badenoch, while she still follows developments and happenings in Nigeria, she has found a better home in the UK, where she lives with her family and party colleagues.

The 45-year-old was born in Wimbledon, South West London, and returned to the UK after her stay in Nigeria because her parents believed there was no future there.

“I think the reason that I came back here was actually a very sad one, and it was that my parents thought, ‘there is no future for you in this country’,” she said.
