NCAA petition: IGP directs airport police to investigate KWAM 1 over disruption of Abuja flight

The inspector-general of police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered an investigation into Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, following an incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The veteran Fuji musician was aboard a ValueJet flight on August 5 when a flight attendant noticed him drinking from a flask suspected to contain alcohol, which is prohibited onboard Nigerian aircraft.

When asked to hand over the flask, KWAM 1 declined, explaining that it contained medication prescribed by his doctor.

After his refusal, the airline crew asked him to leave the aircraft.

Following his deboarding, KWAM 1 reportedly became agitated and moved to the front of the plane in an attempt to prevent its departure.

The Nigeria Police Force received an official complaint from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) about the incident.

Police public relations officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the IGP has instructed the airport police commissioner to begin an immediate, detailed investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the event and ensure justice.

Adejobi also reassured the public of the police force’s dedication to maintaining aviation security and safety across Nigeria.

He said the force would enhance cooperation with stakeholders in the aviation sector to ensure strict enforcement of aviation laws.
