Tinubu appoints Wike ally, Orbih, to Alex Ekwueme University council


President Bola Tinubu has appointed Chisom Dan Orbih, an ally of the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State.

Orbih’s appointment follows the death of a council member.

The president also named Ralph Akinfeleye, a communications scholar, to the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Akinfeleye is a former head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos and chairs the Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography/Unilag Radio 103.1 FM and Television.

He previously served on the Governing Council of Yakubu Gowon University of Abuja.

Akinfeleye replaces Wahab Owokoniran, who is now pro-chancellor and chairman of the Federal University of Transport, Daura, Katsina State.

President Tinubu also approved the appointment of Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai as vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State.

He appointed Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa as the registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as the bursar, and Shehu Aminu Liman as the librarian.

Yakasai, a retired colonel, is the provost of the College of Health Sciences at Bayero University, Kano.

He chairs the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria and is a member of the Governing Council at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.

The vice-chancellor obtained his MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He later received a scholarship from the European Economic Commission for postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom.

Yakasai earned membership and a fellowship at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in the UK.

He also obtained a master’s degree in medical education from the University of Winchester.

The academic later travelled to the United States, where he earned the Fellowship of the International College of Surgeons and the Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons.

Yakasai previously served as the director-general of the Hospitals Management Board, Kano State.
