Mbah commissions five ultramodern terminals and 100 CNG buses as part of Enugu’s plan for a $30 billion economy growth

Projects expected to create over 20,000 jobs and transform transport, enhancing public comfort and boosting sustainable economic revival
Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, on Thursday commissioned five ultramodern transport terminals and launched 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) mass transit buses in a bold step to transform the state’s transportation system.
The projects form part of Mbah’s integrated plan for a modern, multimodal transport network. They include Holy Ghost Terminal 1 (Enugu Central Station 1) for interstate travel, Holy Ghost Terminal 2 (Enugu Central Station 2) for intercity transport, Nsukka Central Station, Abakpa Central Station, and Gariki Central Station. The governor also unveiled over 80 newly built bus shelters across the state.
Mbah said the projects mark Phase 1 of the administration’s five-terminal Transport Infrastructure Project, designed to support his vision of growing Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion.
Speaking at Holy Ghost Terminal 2, he recalled that the area was once notorious for chaotic traffic and disorder. “We knew our economic goals would fail without an efficient public transport system that offers comfort and dignity,” he said. “These terminals and the CNG bus scheme represent a new chapter for over seven million residents, connecting our vision to real action.”
He described the new infrastructure as “engines of economic revival,” creating over 20,000 jobs across BRT services, hybrid city taxis, airport operations, ride-hailing, and support sectors.
President Bola Tinubu, in a goodwill message delivered by Engr. Tari Mayor-Bright on behalf of the Presidential Initiative on CNG, praised the governor for adopting a cleaner, safer, and more affordable transport system.
Biodun Otunola, Managing Director of Planet Project Construction Company, which handled the work, noted that building five major terminals simultaneously was unprecedented in the country.
The governor emphasised that these investments are central to making Enugu Nigeria’s most livable city while driving sustainable growth and modern governance.
