Mr Dogari Daje of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the by-election for Munya Constituency in the Niger House of Assembly.
Daje secured 12,556 votes, defeating his closest rival, Sabon Sunday of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 5,646 votes.
The margin of 6,910 votes reflected a decisive victory for the APC candidate.
Prof. Abdulkarim Saka of the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna, INEC Returning Officer, declared the results at the INEC Area Office in Sarkin Pawa, Munya Local Government.
APC captured ten of the eleven wards, while PDP won just one ward in the election.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Niger, Ahmed Garki, described the poll as transparent, credible, and properly conducted.
The Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, commended officers for maintaining law and order, ensuring a peaceful, violence-free election.
Mr Aminu Najume, Chairman of Munya Local Government, and Mr Maurice Majaji, Commissioner for Land and Survey, praised the calm atmosphere that allowed voters to cast ballots freely.
Prof. Danlaldi Hakimi, one of the electorate, said the relatively peaceful environment contributed to a large turnout but noted that more improvements were needed.
He further advised the PDP candidate to accept the outcome in good faith, emphasising: “It is God who gives power and only one person can be declared a winner.”
