Emir of Zuru, Mohammed Sani Sami, dies in London at 81


The emir of Zuru in Kebbi state, Mohammed Sani Sami, has passed on at the age of 81.

He died on Saturday in a London hospital after a brief illness.

The Kebbi state government confirmed his death in a statement issued on Sunday by Ahmed Idris, the chief press secretary.

According to Garba Umar-Dutsinmari, the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, burial arrangements will be announced in due course.

“The Kebbi Government is using this medium to extend its heartfelt condolences to his immediate family members, Zuru Emirate Council, Zuru people and the entire people of Kebbi,” the statement read.

“May the Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus,” it added.

The late monarch once served as the military governor of Bauchi state between January 1984 and August 1985.

He was turbaned as emir in 1995 after retiring from the Nigerian Army.

Sami enlisted in the army on December 10, 1962, and received his commission on July 25, 1963.
