Police foil kidnap attempt in Akwa Ibom, arrest two suspects

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command says it has foiled a kidnap attempt and arrested two suspects in Eket.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo on Monday.

She explained that operatives received a distress call from a resident about the attempted abduction along Factory Road, Afia Nsit, in Eket Local Government Area on Saturday at about 9:15 p.m.

According to her, the victim recounted that he was about to enter his compound when four men tried to force their way into his vehicle.

“The commotion and prompt arrival of the joint team caused the assailants to flee the scene,” John said.

She noted that a pursuit was launched, which led to the arrest of two suspects from Urue-Offong/Oruko LGA and Udung-Uko LGA.

The police spokesperson added that a search was conducted in an uncompleted building inside a bush nearby, where a cache of weapons was discovered.

Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle with 15 rounds of ammunition and three magazines, an assault rifle with 52 rounds of ammunition and three magazines, and a pump-action shotgun with six live cartridges.

Other items found were a Redmi 14C mobile phone, charms, a head warmer, and a pair of black rubber sandals.

John assured that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects linked to the attempted kidnap.
