The governor of Kwara, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, says fresh measures are being implemented to combat criminal activities in the state’s hinterlands.
Communities in the northern parts of the state have come under frequent attacks by gunmen, sparking abductions and displacements.
In a statement on Wednesday, Rafiu Ajakaiye, chief press secretary to the governor, quoted him as urging residents to remain vigilant.
Abdulrazaq advised people to promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies and relevant authorities to aid swift interventions.
The governor hailed President Bola Tinubu and security operatives for the capture of two top Ansaru terrorist commanders.
He described the arrests as evidence of an intelligence-driven campaign against terrorism and a strong message of federal resolve.
“These arrests are a big win for the country. We commend the president, the national security adviser, and the leadership of the Nigerian armed forces, army, air force, navy, and the Nigeria police and other agencies for this feat,” the statement said.
Abdulrazaq pledged continued support from the state government for federal and security institutions in sustaining the fight against insecurity.
He expressed optimism that the clampdown on terrorist networks would weaken criminal groups across the nation.
“We are confident that these arrests, along with other efforts at various levels across the country, will stamp out the criminal activities in our communities,” he said.
The governor assured residents that resources were being committed to safeguarding lives and properties.
He also emphasised that limited disclosure of ongoing security operations should not be mistaken as indifference.
“Nondisclosure or limited disclosure of specific security information or operation is not borne out of inaction or lack of concern,” he added.
He revealed that significant efforts in intelligence gathering had helped security agencies to disrupt several planned attacks.
Abdulrazaq disclosed that more security personnel, including forest guards, were being deployed to reinforce protection in vulnerable communities.
He directed the Kwara State Social Investment Programme to document victims of recent incidents for possible assistance.
