The Nigerian military top brass has undergone a shake-up following President Bola Tinubu’s dismissal of some service chiefs.

The Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, has been relieved of his duty as part of the changes carried out by Tinubu. He is replaced by Olufemi Oluyede.

The changes in the composition of the Service Chiefs were contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, on Friday in Abuja

Other changes include the appointment of W. Shaibu as the new Chief of Army Staff, while SK Aneke takes over as Chief of Air Staff. Abbas is the new Naval Chief but E.A.P Undiendeye remains unchanged as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

The President commended the outgoing Service Chiefs for their patriotic service and dedicated leadership, while urging the new appointees to justify the confidence reposed in them and to uphold the professionalism, vigilance, and unity that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

All appointments take immediate effect.

The reshuffling came barely a week after reports of an attempted coup emerged in the media. At least sixteen military officers were reportedly arrested in connection with the alleged coup plot.
