It was indeed a total shut down of Nsukka metropolis as residents on Saturday morning came out in their thousands to register their support for the Labour Party Presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.
The march which started from the popular Total roundabout to Odenigbo junction through Ugwuoye junction saw the presence of both youths and elderly who threw their support on the Labour party presidential election come 2023.
The March for Peter Obi was organized under the aegis of Nsukka for good governance asked the residents to get their Permanent Voters Card, PVC ready for the 2023 general election.
In a chat with our reporter, the convener of the march, Comrade Clinton Ogbonna explained that ” the rally is all about the PVC sensitization. We the youths especially those from Nsukka zone brainstormed and said we are going to sensitize them to go and get their PVC so that we can exercise our franchise during the 2023 general election.
Again we came here because we are obedient. We are youthful obedient. Nigerian youths said that time has come for us to take back our country because we believe that this country belongs to us. If the country belongs to us, it is now time for us to take back the country. We are not going to take back the country violently, we are going to do it systematically and obediently get our PVC, vote out bad governance. And when we vote out bad governance, we must have ended voting out ASUU strike, we must have ended voting out corruption, bad leaders, insecurity and a whole of things pervading this country. Hence, reason for this march. ”
Stressing further he said, ” just like those people like Manhattan Ghadi of India, Nelson Mandela of South Africa, Martin Luther King Jr of USA and a whole lot of them that came out and said look we can’t continue this way. We need a better country for ourselves and our children. That is what we are demanding in this country.”
In a chat with Within Nigeria, one of the participants of the rally Mr. John Ogbobe from Uzo-Uwani stressed that ” I came all the way from Ukpabi, Uzo- Uwani local government area to participate in this rally. I am a youth and need a total overhaul of this country. We can’t continue like this. This march is purely for Mr. Peter Obi and his Labour Party. We want our people to get their PVC so that we vote Peter Obi in 2023 general election.”
Another participant Mr. Joy Odo from Orba, Udenu local government area told our reporter that ” our leaders whom we have being following since the return of democracy in 1999 have failed us. This movement is not about party. It is all about Peter Obi to salvage this country.”
Yet another participant, Mohammed Idris from Katsina state explained that ” I was born and brought up here in Nsukka. We are celebrating our Salah today but I just came out to register my little presence here before I go back to our celebration. I like what is happening here today because we have suffered in this country. We need youthful people to lead us. We need Peter Obi to lead this country come 2023.”
Within Nigeria gathered that the said march has put the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in a state of discomfort as fear of Peter Obi movement may have a spill over effect on the guber election in the state come 2023.
