Police Command uncovers plot by gunmen to attack commercial banks

The Edo state Police Command says it has uncovered a plot by unknown armed robbers to rob several banks including other commercial centers during the festive period.

The Commissioner of Police in Edo state, Johnson Kokumo, revealed this in a statement on Friday, December 11.

He said that intelligence gathered by Police operatives has it that the armed robbers have procured several sophisticated weapons, ahead of their planned operation.

He however, warned that men and officers of the Edo State Command is ready and prepared to deal with any individual or criminal group who are deadlocked on causing mayhem in the state, ahead of the festive season.

He said, “We have uncovered plans by bandits to attack banks and throw the state into panic. But I can assure that adequate security had been put in place to toward hitch-free Christmas and New year celebrations.”

“Already, Armoured Personnel Carry and other equipment have been put in place to combat any security breach in the state.”

He also lamented the escape of more than 1900 persons from 2 correctional facilities in the State during the #EndSARS protest, he however, urged members of the community to work with the Police by providing necessary information, that will enable them apprehend some of the criminals who are still at large.
