Security: How Enugu Deputy Gov’s Hometown Came Under Siege As Kidnappers Overrun 4 Communities

Residents of Ezimo Uno, hometown of the deputy governor of Enugu state, Mr. Ifeanyi Ossai are currently  under siege as kidnappers suspected to be Fulani herders have invaded the community, abducting and killing innocent people in the area.

WITHIN NIGERIA source revealed that also invaded is Imilike Uno, hometown of Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Frank Mbah all in Udenu local government area of the state.

In September, 2025, a security guard in the residence of DIG Mbah was killed by hoodlums believed to be Fulani herdsmen.

The latest kidnapping incident has once again triggered huge security concern in a relatively quiet and peaceful Enugu community known for huge Agricultural outputs.

Eyewitness explained that “kidnappers suspected to be herdsmen, who have been operating unchallenged along Amalla_Obollo_Ezimo communities in Udenu have killed many residents in the communities.

“No fewer than 10 residents of the communities have been kidnapped within the past three days by the gunmen, who also killed a resident of Ogbele_Ohulor village in Obollo Afor, identified as Mr. Oformadu Eze

Narrating further, our source who preferred anonymity for security reasons said that “a Catholic priest identified as Rev. Fr. Emmanuel narrowly escaped death when his car was riddled with bullets by the kidnappers on Tuesday night, October 13, 2025.

DIG Frank Mbah: Kidnappers Overrun hometown

“Another victim, Abuchi Asogwa, was not so lucky as he was shot by the rampaging gunmen.”

Also explaining, our source said that “on Wednesday night, another five victims were kidnapped along Ezimo Road in Imilike. All the victims were still under captivity as of last night, October 16, 2025.

“However, the kidnappers last night reduced the ransom for the first five victims from N20 million to N2million.

“Among the five victims who were earlier kidnapped at Obollo Afor and Ezimo are Chimezie Ezeme, Chizoba Ugwu and Festus Ezeme.

“While three of the victims are from Ogbele Ohulor Obollo Afor, two others are from Amogbele Ezimo.”

However, some of the residents, who spoke off record, alleged that the police and other security agents in the communities have abandoned them to their fate.

Another resident of these communities who spoke to our reporter under anonymity stated that “The kidnapping incident happening around our communities is getting out of hand.”

According to the resident, “for complete 3 days in a row, they kidnapped people at Udenu LGA area non stop. The first day was Ezimo, second day Ezimo/Obollo boundary and third day  Imilike ulo town.

“It started on Monday this week. Their first target was a Catholic priest at Ama_Ogbelle Obollo Afor boundary between Obollo Afor and Ezimo town. They pointed torch light at him and wanted to kidnap him.

“However, the guy who was with the priest asked them who are they? They shot him and when the priest saw danger, he ran away. They followed him up, but he later escaped.

“They came back same night kidnapped up to four persons, broke people’s shops and took away biscuits, minerals, milk and packed it together with their kidnapped victims and moved them away. The next day they kidnapped another set of people same axis of Udenu LGA, among them is the one they have shot dead and dropped along the road

“According to what happened, they have already finished their kidnapping and moving them inside the bush and the victim wanted to escape. They stabbed him and he escaped but later died on his way due to loss of blood while running and nobody came out to help him while he was shouting and shouting.”

Appealing to the security operatives, they stated that “we the residents  of Obollo Afor, Obollo Etiti, Ezimo and Imilike communities all in Udenu Local Government Area (LGA) of Enugu State are now crying out to Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Inspector General of Police (IG), Kayode Egbetokun and the General Officer Commanding the 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Enugu, to rescue them from kidnappers suspected to be herdsmen, who have laid siege on the communities.”

However, all efforts to get the reaction of the state police command proved abortive as the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO of the command, Daniel Ndukwe could not pick his calls by our reporter.
