President Bola Tinubu on Friday, October 24 approved the appointment of Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as the new Chief of Naval Staff. 


This was disclosed by Chief Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication in a statement signed and released to newsmen.

According to Dare, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas replaced Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla as the Chief of Naval Staff.

He was born on September 20, 1969

He is a native of a village in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State

He attended Gwagwarwa Primary School in Kano

He also attended Air Force Military School in Jos from 1981 to 1986

He enlisted into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) on September 12, 1987

He was commissioned as a Sub-Lieutenant on September 10, 1993, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry

He was a Base Administrative Officer of NNS Pathfinder

He was a Naval Contingent Commander of Joint Task Force Operation SAFE HAVEN

He was a Maritime Guard Commander of NIMASA

He was a Commander Task Group of NN Operation Tsare-Teku

He was a Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) of Central Naval Command

He was a Chief of Naval Safety and Standard (CNASS) at Naval Headquarters
