On Thursday morning, April 9, members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) killed Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah and 17 soldiers in coordinated attacks on military formations in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area, Ngamdu, and Pulka town in Borno State’s Gwoza LGA.
The insurgents reportedly stormed the three military formations with heavy gunfire and explosives.
According to an army spokesman, Micheal Onoja, the attack took place in Benisheikh, Borno State, but it was thwarted.
Onoja referred to the assailants as “terrorists,” a term used by the military to describe members of Islamic militant groups in the country’s northeast.
