VERIFICATION
When WITHIN NIGERIA examined the video, it discovered that it was old, but a fresh version with Tinubu’s image in the background was recently shared on social media platform by some influencers.
With the help of a Google image search, it was discovered that the video was originally posted in April 2018, and credible news platforms like WITHIN NIGERIA, Punch, and others reported it as comments credited to former President Obasanjo in an event.
Further investigation found that the video was taken when Obasanjo met with members of the New Nigeria organization at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun state.
Obasanjo criticized Buhari’s administration in April 2018 for the state of the economy. He also said that Nigerians are victims of Buhari’s administration’s incompetency.
VERDICT
The viral video showing Obasanjo criticizing the federal government for the plight of the economy is outdated. It is dated April 2018, and the complaints in the video were addressed at late President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
