On July 26, 2015, a female suicide bomber detonated an explosive device in Damaturu, Yobe State which claimed twentkt-two people.
According to security officials and eyewitnesses, the explosion occurred in a crowded area of the capital on Sunday morning.
Emergency responders and local residents rushed to the scene to evacuate the wounded and recover bodies, while hospitals in Damaturu were placed on emergency alert to handle casualties.
Security forces cordoned off the area immediately after the blast as investigations began. No group has formally claimed responsibility, but the method and target are consistent with previous attacks widely attributed to Boko Haram in northeastern Nigeria.
Governor Ibrahim Gaidam condemned the attack and urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies. “This senseless act of violence will not deter us from the path of peace,” a statement from the government said.
The Nigerian military said it had intensified patrols and security checks across the state in the wake of the bombing.
